Cavalier Genève Boartamer – Cigar Review

Cavalier Genève Boartamer Prelight

Cavalier Genève, founded by Sebastien Decoppet, is a boutique cigar brand based in Danli, Honduras. Sebastien was a Swiss entrepreneur who dreamed of starting his cigar brand. Sebastien decided to sell many possessions to fund a trip to Honduras and pursue his dreams. Once there, he met Adin Perez and began to work under his mentorship. Sebastien went on to start what we now know as Cavalier Genève in 2016.

Cavalier’s Project Broadleaf is a 4-part series exploring the Connecticut Broadleaf cigar wrapper. The introductory release, the Skywalker, debuted in early 2025. The Boartamer followed, with a release in June 2025, and we’re expecting two more releases before the year’s end. The Boartamer is a limited run with 5000 cigars offered to the public (500 bundles of 10). The Boartamer’s one vitola is a 5 1/4 x 52 Robusto Extra. The blend is a USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, over Nicaraguan Jalapa binder, and filler leaves from Jamastrán, Honduras, and Jalapa, Estelí, and Ometepe, Nicaragua.

The wrapper is a dark chocolate brown with a ton of tooth and small veins. The aromas on the wrapper and foot are of dark wood and barnyard. The draw is slightly snug, with notes of hot cocoa.

Cavalier Genève Boartamer First Third

The Boartamer starts off with medium smoke output. The flavors on the palate are maple wood, earth, and cocoa powder. The retrohale is showing hot cocoa, smoked meat, and savory black pepper. The strength of flavor is full. The finish is soft with notes of maple and black pepper. The overall profile is an exciting juxtaposition of sweet and savory flavors, with a slightly spicy backbone. Ash, burn, and construction are top-notch so far. The ash is tight and toothy, and the burn line is razor sharp.

Cavalier Genève Boartamer Second Third

The palate notes are crusty bread, cocoa powder, light earth, and maple wood. The retrohale has tones of dark chocolate, dried fruits, baking spices, and black pepper. The strength of flavor has decreased to medium. The smoke output has increased to medium plus. The finish is medium with notes of dried fruit and black pepper. The meaty tones and some of the black pepper have fallen off, giving way to a sweet and rich core of dark chocolate and dried fruits. The ash, burn, and construction remain fantastic.

Cavalier Genève Boartamer Final Third

The palate tastes like crusty bread, cocoa powder, light earth, and maple wood. The retorhale has notes of dark chocolate, dried dark fruit, baking spices, and muted black pepper. The strength of flavor remains at medium. The smoke output remains medium plus. The finish remains medium with notes of dark chocolate and muted black pepper. The dried dark fruit and dark chocolate are at the center stage of the flavor profile, a delicious combination. Ash, burn, and construction remain flawless. Past the band, the flavors remained consistent. I smoked this one down to the nub.

Cavalier Genève Boartamer Conclusions

The Cavalier Genève Boartamer is a fantastic example of a Connecticut Broadleaf blend. The core of the flavor profile is a mix of chocolate, dried fruits, and some satiating black pepper. I find some broadleaf cigars to be overbearing, but the Boartamer was exceptionally blended. Construction was flawless, the flavors were delicious, and even the aesthetics make this cigar a steal at $13. Sebastien Decoppet has shown he’s a world-class cigar blender, and I’m just happy to be along for the ride.
